SANDAKAN – The Covid-19 immunisation centre at the community hall here is seeing crowds of people wanting to get the jab before their appointment dates.

Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun, in a statement today, said most of these individuals want to leave Sandakan soon, including those seeking medical treatment in Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur.

“Some are unaware that they have to wait to be informed by the Health Ministry to receive their jabs. They went to the immunisation centre immediately after registering for the vaccine.”

He called on residents to wait for a notification via SMS or a call from the ministry, and not to straightaway head to the vaccination centre, leading to crowds forming and complicating duties for medical personnel.

“So far, the medical personnel here have been doing a great job keeping the situation organised and in order.

“But imagine if they receive a group of people who do not know that they need to wait for their turn at the centre every day. Their job is going to get difficult.

“We also want to avoid huge groups of people gathering, to curb the spread of the virus.”

Chong urged locals to stay home if they do not have important matters to attend to. – The Vibes, May 6, 2021
