KUALA LUMPUR – PKR has deemed the police action to investigate party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was questioned for two hours at Bukit Aman today, as “suspicious”.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said this is more so as the process to confirm the support Anwar has among MPs to take over the government is still ongoing.

“I am worried when Datuk Seri Anwar imagines a ‘black hand’ trying to speed up the investigation as it seems like an attempt to put pressure on him,” said Fahmi, who is Lembah Pantai MP, in a statement this evening.

He said Anwar felt that his investigators are seeing the possibility of a change in government taking place.

“But I believe that those who are trying to frustrate this move to return the people’s mandate in this way will not succeed,” Fahmi said.

Speaking to reporters after leaving Bukit Aman at 5pm, Anwar had said the police requested for the names of MPs who were backing him to be prime minister.

Anwar, who is also opposition leader and Port Dickson MP, said he was being investigated for six cases, including one for sodomy.

The rest were related to his claim of majority support among MPs, he added.

Anwar, who had an audience with the Agong on Tuesday over the list of MPs, described the police focus on the names as “disconcerting and mind-boggling”.

“It makes no sense for anyone else to know in detail what transpired during my audience with the Agong,” he said, adding that it had nothing to do with the police or the home minister. – The Vibes, October 16, 2020
