MIRI – Sarawak is tightening entry procedures for travellers due to concerns about the Delta variant of Covid-19.
People from other states must have a negative RT-PCR test three days before they arrive, undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival, and get tested once more on the 10th day of their isolation.
The testing requirements are also imposed on travellers from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who must observe an additional seven days’ quarantine.
For arrivals from other countries, they, too, must get tested twice, as well as spend two weeks of quarantine at designated centres and observe another seven days’ self-isolation.
Entry is barred to those who have been to Labuan in the three weeks to their Sarawak visit.
“The Delta variant is very infectious. We cannot allow it to spread in Sarawak,” said the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat today.
Sarawak has seen 396 coronavirus deaths, including four new ones today: a 39-year-old woman in Kapit, an 80-year-old man in Kuching, an 86-year-old man in Miri, and a 54-year-old man in Sibu.
The state also logged another 673 infections, with Sibu seeing the highest number at 122, followed by Kuching (109), Kanowit (84), Bintulu (57), Tebedu (37), Telang Usan (31), Miri (18) and other districts. – The Vibes, June 25, 2021
