KUALA LUMPUR – The massive power outage in the peninsula stemming from a substation in northern Yong Peng, Johor is an isolated case, said Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

The company also assured that the national power grid remains stable and dependable despite the incident today.

TNB CEO Datuk Baharin Din said electricity supply was restored “almost immediately” as there were smart features implemented in the national power grid that allowed for quick detection and subsequent fixes.

He added that there was no fire at the affected substation and it is now fully operational.

“We are able to resolve the power outage in a reasonable time. Power was restored within 20 minutes in certain affected areas.”

He said TNB will conduct a thorough investigation of the incident along with the Energy Commission.

Earlier, The Vibes reported that several areas across Peninsular Malaysia, including the Klang Valley, Penang, and Pahang suffered from power outages, which subsequently affected the operations of the Light Rail Transit service, Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd, and delivery services such as Grab.

In an earlier statement today, TNB said electricity was restored within 20 to 40 minutes in places outside of the Klang Valley.

It added that the power blackout started at 12.39pm today and among the affected areas are Petaling Jaya, Cheras and Bangi in the Klang Valley; Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya in Penang; as well as Johor’s Panchor and Bandar Indera Mahkota. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
