KUALA LUMPUR – Police arrested six locals believed to be involved in a job scam syndicate through Op Pintas Daya on August 3.
Royal Malaysia Police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the six individuals comprised four men and two females aged between 33 to 45 years old.
Investigations are being carried out under Section 12 and 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
“Several items were seized, including cell phones, laptops, modems, routers, pen drives, and cash”, she said in a statement today.
Op Pintas Daya was carried out in collaboration with the Labour Department, the Council for Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants, and the Home Ministry.
Noorsiah said that police have received 182 reports of Malaysians claiming to be victims of syndicates working abroad, involving 238 victims, 168 of which are still stranded abroad while 70 have been rescued.
“We are also currently working with the Foreign Ministry, Aseanapol, and Interpol to trace the remaining victims.
“Family members or contacts of victims with information are advised to make a police report if they have not yet done so,” she added.
