KUALA LUMPUR – Don’t let ego get in the way of a victory, said PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin to Umno amid talks of state- and division-level cooperation ahead of the general election.
He was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia that Umno should allow its divisions to work together via Muafakat Nasional (MN) for the sake of ummah unity.
He added that Umno should revise its decision to restrict autonomy to state leadership from working with PAS, especially in states where MN has the potential to win.
Hashim also advised Umno to not allow its ego to deliver wins for the opposition.
“We cannot stop Umno, as it is up to the party to decide. For me, Umno should not stand in the way of its state leaders and divisions to work with PAS for the sake of Muslims.
“Don’t set aside Muslim unity…I hope Umno gives this some thought. We have the opportunity to win in states like Selangor if given a chance.
“However, if the relationship is untenable, we will have no choice but to face each other. It is best if we find solutions to continue working together.”
Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said among the resolutions made in its general assembly was to not allow state and division leaders to work with PAS and Bersatu.
Today, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi again pushed for the government to call an election this year, saying more delays would only give the opposition more ammunition to attack the Barisan Nasional coalition. – The Vibes, August 20, 2022
