ALOR STAR – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said he is willing to face legal action over his controversial remark branding non-Muslims as a major cause of corruption in the country.

He confirmed to the media at the PAS 68th Muktamar or assembly here today that he had given his statement to Bukit Aman police on August 29.

“I was already called to Bukit Aman to be questioned, and I have answered the questions.

“Anything further, I am willing to face in court,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the PAS annual assembly.

Federal police said 28 reports were lodged against Hadi after he said non-Muslims were the “roots of corruption” in a Facebook post. PAS organ Harakah also published the same article.

Hadi’s ally, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who attended the PAS muktamar today, also commented on the PAS president’s offensive remark.

“Corruption is dominating the lives of both Muslims and non-Muslims. All are involved in this stigma, which Perikatan Nasional (PN) wants to put a stop to,” said Muhyiddin, who leads the PN coalition which PAS is part of.

He added that as both Muslims and non-Muslims are capable of corruption, Hadi’s remarks need not be debated further. – The Vibes, September 3, 2022
