KUALA LUMPUR – Public transport operator RapidKL is conducting further investigations to identify the cause of a service disruption on the Kelana Jaya LRT line last night.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Amir Hamdan, in a statement, said Train 59, which caused the disruption, had experienced technical issues and broke down at the KL Sentral station heading towards Putra Heights.
However, he did not divulge more details on the cause of the breakdown.
“An investigation will be conducted to identify the cause of the train breakdown. This is to ensure that incidents like these could be avoided in the future,” he said.
As of 1.07am this morning, the problematic train on the Kelana Jaya LRT line was removed from service.
In the incident that occurred at 8.26pm last night, the train’s brake system was automatically activated as it approached the Kg Baru Station.
In a video that was shared widely, smoke was also seen coming off a train carriage at the KL Sentral LRT station.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said no reports had been lodged over the incident.
“The train from Putra Heights had to turn back at the Bangsar station while the train from Gombak had to turn back at the KLCC station. This caused congestion at stations and platforms,” Amir said.
“We would like to apologise to all passengers who experienced delays and difficulties in getting to their respective destinations.
“Rapid Rail will improve standard operating procedures in handling congestion at stations, particularly in terms of communication and information distribution to passengers so that they can plan alternative journeys in the event of any incident.”
Last night’s incident marks the second time this month that the Kelana Jaya LRT line has seen a service disruption.
