KUALA LUMPUR – The National Recovery Council (NRC) chaired by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is also a failure if he claims the entire government failed to manage the country’s economy, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He was responding to Muhyiddin’s remarks earlier today that the general election should be called if he could not manage the economy.
“In terms of economy, I have (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri) Mustapa (Mohamed) with me to manage the economy, and we also have the NRC chaired by Muhyiddin himself.
“So, this is a shared responsibility...if it failed, it means we all failed, even NRC failed,” Ismail Sabri was quoted as saying by Bernama after he launched the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 in Putrajaya today.
Muhyiddin, who was prime minister before Ismail Sabri, said today his successor should call for snap polls if he could not manage the economy.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said he was concerned over the government’s lack of a comprehensive solution to issues such as the weak ringgit, labour shortage and food insecurity.
“I think that if the prime minister continues to fail to manage the economy and the country well, then it is better for an election to be held so that a new government that is more efficient, caring and free from corruption can be elected by the people,” Muhyiddin had said.
He also said that NRC discussed labour shortage issues at its meetings and reports to the cabinet, but there has not been a comprehensive solution.
Neither is the government taking the ringgit’s depreciation seriously, Muhyiddin added. – The Vibes, September 19, 2022
