KUALA LUMPUR – Police have warned the public against joining a protest organised by youth-based party Muda planned for Saturday.

Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya said his department had not received any notification on the upcoming rally outside the Sogo shopping complex in the city.

He said the organiser’s failure to inform police of planned rallies did not comply with provisions in the law.

“The police also advise the organisers to cease holding this assembly. If it is still held, we will take stern action in accordance with the law,” he said when contacted.

"The public is also advised not to take part in this assembly,” Noor Dellhan told Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal.

Yesterday, Muda executive committee member Nurainie Haziqah Shafii said the party will be holding its “Lives First Before Elections” protest in the city centre.

Plans for the rally were announced after Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the coalition is willing to face floods to campaign for the next general elections, remarks which earned him criticism for being power crazy instead of prioritising the people’s welfare.

Zahid, who is also Umno president, has been among the party’s leaders pressuring Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve Parliament quickly and hold polls before the end of this year.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has called Zahid “crazy” for insisting the polls can be held during the monsoon season when the risk of floods is high. – The Vibes, September 22, 2022
