KUALA LUMPUR – PAS leader Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has admitted that the Kota Baru City Council (MPKB) assisted at his children’s weddings yesterday.
The Bachok MP made the acknowledgement when thanking the city council, the Public Works Department (PWD), and police in a Facebook post today.
He expressed his appreciation for the services that were provided, including monitoring the flow of traffic during the weddings that were attended by approximately 10,000 guests.
“I would like to convey a thousand thanks to the Royal Malaysian Police, MPKB, and PWD, which had accepted my request to facilitate and ease our celebrations and feasts, especially in ensuring the comfort of movement and smooth traffic, which is quite crowded during peak hours.
“MPKB prepared rubbish bins for solid waste management and ensured cleanliness of the venues.
“I also want to thank the 500 volunteers who helped make the event a success,” the PAS central committee member said.
A letter by Nik Abduh requesting local authorities for manpower to help at his daughter’s wedding went viral recently, and was confirmed by a source from MPKB on Friday.
According to the source, the items requested were sent to the venue after instructions were issued by the council’s top management. Other requested services were waste management and traffic control.
The letter dated September 20 sent by the Bachok lawmaker was purportedly received by council president Rosnazli Amin two days later.
DAP lawmaker Lim Guan Eng has said that the Bachok MP had abused his power by asking state agencies to help with the weddings, and urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to probe the matter.
He said MACC should not have double standards in investigating local councils, as it had previously raided the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) earlier this month over a flood mitigation project.
“MACC must show that the commission does not adopt double standards between MPKB and MBSA.
“That is why the MACC needs to investigate Nik Abduh and should raid the MPKB to see if there is any abuse of power by this MP, or if the local authorities are involved, trying to cover up cooperation as requested by the leader,” Lim said in a statement today. – The Vibes, September 26, 2022
