KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has invited its divisional leaders, including its women, youth and Puteri leaders, to a meeting with the prime minister and party president next week.

The invite, which was sent by secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan yesterday, noted that the meeting will be held next Tuesday, 2pm at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, World Trade Centre here.

While the letter did not state the reason for the meeting, it is expected that the leaders will be discussing preparations for the next general election.

The letter was issued following the conclusion of the Supreme Council meeting yesterday.

Ahmad last night said Ismail Sabri will present a suitable date to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament and pave the way for a general election to be held this year.

Reading out a statement to the press following the conclusion of the Umno Supreme Council meeting, he said this is in line with the party’s decision to return the mandate back to the people.

“The dissolution of Parliament must be held soon, to allow the 15th general election to be held within this year. Based on this decision, the prime minister will present a date for dissolution to the king in line with Article 40 of the federal constitution.”

However, Umno has been criticised for pushing for polls during the monsoon season. – The Vibes, October 1, 2022
