KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is to make a major announcement at 3pm today, widely believed to be on the dissolution of Parliament.
The announcement will be broadcast live on television at 3pm, said a notice posted by Ismail Sabri on Twitter.
This comes after a week of intense speculation as to when Parliament would be dissolved. Ismail Sabri’s government even tabled the national budget for 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.
It was speculated before then that Parliament could be dissolved before the budget’s tabling, as the prime minister had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Thursday presumably to seek royal consent for dissolution.
However, the meeting was said to be the usual pre-cabinet discussion that the prime minister holds with the king each week, according to a brief statement by Istana Negara on Facebook the same night.
The prime minister had an audience with the Agong yesterday before his majesty left for an official visit to London until October 16.
Ismail Sabri had also held his last cabinet meeting on October 7.
If the Agong had consented, then his majesty would have signed the Instrument of Dissolution.
Fueling the Parliament dissolution speculation was Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun’s presence during the king’s and the Raja Permaisuri Agong’s sending off last night at the Royal Air Force Base in Sg Besi for their official visit to London until October 16. – The Vibes, October 10, 2022
