KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) triggered the 15th general election (GE15) only to save its leaders from being prosecuted for alleged criminal acts, said Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In a brief video posted on his social media account, Dr Mahathir said this was exemplified by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s recent speech where he rallied BN supporters to ensure that the coalition will win big in GE15 to prevent more selective prosecution.

Dr Mahathir further alleged that BN leaders are not the least interested in championing their country, race, and religion.

“Now the people understand Umno’s real intention in pushing for the election as what was said by Zahid earlier. They wanted to save themselves from being charged in court for their crimes.

“Not just Zahid, other leaders mentioned by Zahid are also in cahoots and they all have problems and are believed to be (allegedly) involved in criminal acts, and they wish to win big to prevent any legal actions taken against them.

“This is their real intention of why they are contesting this coming election. They are not fighting for the country, race or religion but rather for themselves,” he said.

During his speech at the MIC Congress on Monday, Zahid said other BN leaders could suffer selective prosecution from Pakatan Harapan’s would-be government – just as he and his predecessor, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, have endured.

Zahid had quipped to MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Umno veteran Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan not to take the issue lightly as they too are supposedly in the crosshairs of their political rivals. – The Vibes, October 12, 2022
