KUALA LUMPUR – The suburban Bangi parliamentary seat will be crowded as eight candidates successfully submitted their nomination papers.
Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) component DAP will be defending the seat although incumbent Ong Kian Ming is replaced by lawyer Syahredzan Johan.
Other candidates announced by Election Commission’s (EC) returning officer Ani Ahmad are Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Hoh Hee Lee, Perikatan Nasional’s Nazrul Hakim Nazir, Pejuang’s Annuar Salleh, and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s (PRM) Chee Chee Meng.
There are also three independent candidates gunning for the seat. They are Jamal Hisham Hashim, Suthan Mookaiah and Muhammad Fauzi Hasim.
Syahredzan told reporters waiting at the nomination centre here that his party is going to celebrate democracy and the system is very much alive as seven other candidates are fielded for the seat.
“We can’t look at it as a negative thing.
“With this many candidates, it means that the people are spoiled for choice and they can choose the best one they see fit to represent them for the constituency.
“There are more than 300,000 voters in P102 Bangi, which means that there are all layers of the society here.”
Meanwhile, PRM’s Chee is confident that he can put up a good fight even though the party lost its deposit in 2018 after securing 215 votes.
“We will win big because we have the full support of the people now.
“History is history. PRM will not lose its deposit again because they have me as the new candidate.
“I will bring new direction to the party as well as defend the people’s well-being,” he said after the nomination process was completed at the Hulu Langat district and land office. – The Vibes, November 5, 2022
