BAGAN DATUK – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today assured that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob remained the coalition’s top choice for the prime ministerial position.
Zahid said this was evident as Ismail Sabri has taken centre stage as BN’s poster boy and his image was plastered nationwide, even in Bagan Datuk.
“His posters and billboards are everywhere and definitely can be seen here in Bagan Datuk,’’ he said during a press conference here.
The Umno president also rebuked speculation and rumours by political opponents that he aspired to be prime minister, alleging that they (opposition) would even resort to underhanded tactics to win the election.
“The slogan ‘A vote for BN is a vote for Zahid to be PM’ shows that they will use any means to win.
“For BN, it is important for us to cross the bridge first by getting enough support,’’ he said.
Zahid also stressed that the prerogative to appoint the prime minister lies with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who would choose a candidate from the party with the most support in the Dewan Rakyat, as stated in the federal constitution.
On whether BN would work with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PH to form the federal government, Zahid said the coalition is open to working with any political party, depending on the composition of the Dewan Rakyat post-election.
“Why should we just work with him (Anwar)? We are willing to work with any political party, but we have to cross the bridge first and garner enough support,’’ he said. – The Vibes, November 7, 2022
