KUALA LUMPUR – Criticism over early balloting by military personnel is not an issue as the postal voting process for them started on November 7, said caretaker law minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
In a statement today, he said all postal votes were sent out starting last Monday and the candidates have been informed by Election Commission (EC) officers on the matter.
“So, there are no issues as this is a normal process in all elections, be it a by-election or a general election.
“What is more important is the ballots have to reach the office of the relevant EC officers before 5pm on polling day (November 19).”
Last week, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that early voting by military personnel conducted earlier was in violation of EC rules.
He also alleged that this had happened in Bera, Pahang, the parliamentary constituency of caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
However, Ismail Sabri had slammed Anwar’s claims, saying it was defamatory and aimed at creating a negative perception of Barisan Nasional. – The Vibes, November 14, 2022
