IPOH – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s charismatic oratory skills came under fire today after former Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that “even pigs can fly” when the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman speaks.

Despite being dropped as a candidate in the 15th general election (GE15), Annuar gave a fiery speech to a crowd of nearly 100 Umno supporters when campaigning for BN here today.

Delivering his rousing address at the party’s main operations room in Taman Muhibbah, Annuar said that Malaysians must beware the PKR president who “had a history of telling tall tales” in order to become prime minister.

“If we hear Anwar’s speeches, even pigs can fly. That’s okay; we accept that is his gift.

“He (Anwar) even promised to make Port Dickson the Dubai of Malaysia, (saying) ‘I have friends from Turkey, Saudi, China, and India, and I will bring my friends to develop Malaysia’…that is total nonsense,” Annuar said, referring to Anwar’s former constituency Port Dickson.

“You can cheat some people sometimes, you can cheat some people all the time, but Anwar, you cannot cheat all the people all the time,” a fiery Annuar said during a ceramah here today.

Anwar is leading PH’s charge in GE15 from Perak, where he is contesting the Tambun federal seat against incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief and former menteri besar.

Contenders from other coalitions, such as BN’s Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah and Gerakan Tanah Air’s Abdul Rahim Tahir, are also in the running, but the main battle there appears to be between the PH and PN heavyweights.

Annuar added that although Anwar had held several key cabinet posts, such as agriculture, education, youth and sports and finance under Barisan Nasional (BN), he still failed to address the people’s needs.

The former Ketereh MP also chided Anwar for claiming that PKR was formed to represent the common people when it has candidates in GE15 who are millionaires.

Flogging Umno’s “No Anwar, No DAP” mantra, Annuar said Anwar’s political lifeline was dependent on DAP.

He also repeated anti-DAP rhetoric, saying that the party espouses socialism and liberalism, and that it violates the federal constitution, especially with regards to the special position of the Malays, Islam and the Malay rulers.

In his speech, Annuar also reminded the Umno election machinery in Tambun that they must end Anwar’s prime minister aspirations in GE15. – The Vibes, November 15, 2022
