KUALA LUMPUR – At 58% voter turnout as of 2pm, the number of people who have voted in the 15th general election (GE15) today is the same as the total number of people who voted in the previous polls in 2018.
There are a few more hours to go before polling ends at 6pm, indicating the possibility of a high overall turnout.
The Election Commission in a rolling update on turnout said it stood at 58% as of 2pm, which means some 12.2 million Malaysians, more than half of the electoral roll, have voted in 221 parliamentary seats.
One federal seat, Padang Serai, will hold voting separately on December 7 following the death of one candidate prior to polling day today.
In 2018, turnout at the end of the polls was 82.32%, or 12,299,514 voters.
This time, there are more than 6 million new voters on the electoral roll, totalling 21,173,638 electors. In 2018, there were 14, 940,624 registered voters. – The Vibes, November 19, 2022
