KUALA LUMPUR – Six states are still affected by the floods as of 4pm today compared to seven this morning, with 2,701 victims still taking shelter at 46 relief centres.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), in a statement today, stated that the floods involved 15 districts in the states of Perak, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Kelantan and Sarawak.
“As of 4pm today, the water level readings of four rivers, namely Long Jegan, Long Teru, Marudi in Miri and Sebauh in Bintulu, Sarawak, were at dangerous levels according to the Irrigation and Drainage Department,” read the statement.
Nadma also said that the Malaysian Meteorological Department has also issued a significant weather advisory for the period from November 20 to 26, based on the analysis of weather forecasting models.
“According to the analysis, wind concentration is expected to occur in Peninsular Malaysia during the period from November 20 until 24, and this situation has the potential to cause the formation of a squall line that brings with it thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in the peninsular states,” Nadma said in the statement.
In addition, the Public Works Department at 2pm today reported flooding at seven locations, six slope collapses, two sinking roads, and two damaged bridges.
“These incidents which occurred in Kedah, Perak, Johor, Kelantan, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu and Pahang involved nine federal roads and eight state roads,” the statement added.
