KOTA KINABALU – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Barisan Nasional (GRS-BN) pact-breaker Riduan Rubin will become Tenom MP after winning 10,027 votes (1,108 vote-majority) as an independent.
Riduan, who is Tenom Bersatu youth chief and son of Datuk Rubin Balang, former Kemabong assemblyman won the seat against BN’s Jamawi Ja’afar who garnered 8,625 votes – third highest out of five candidates.
Pakatan Harapan’s Noorita Sual of DAP failed to defend her seat with 8,919 votes.
Two other candidates lost their deposits – Warisan’s Ukim Buandi (992 votes) and independent candidate Peggy Chaw Zhi Ting (86 votes).
Recently, Sabah BN Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin had urged GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to take action against Riduan, to which the state chief minister said action will be taken if Riduan is from Bersatu.
Last Monday, Bung Moktar also said Tenom risks not getting development funds if voters back Riduan, as backing an independent is akin to voting for the opposition. – The Vibes, November 20, 2022
