KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have agreed to form the Pahang and Perak state governments, after no single coalition secured majority support in the state polls held concurrently with the national election (GE15).

Sources from PH have since confirmed the decisions taken in both states.

It is learned that the Pahang menteri besar will be a BN representative while the Perak menteri besar will be from PH.

Both states, including Perlis, had dissolved their assemblies after Parliament was dissolved on October 10, paving the way for simultaneous state and federal elections.

In Perak, Perikatan Nasional (PN) managed to secure 26 state seats, followed by PH (24) and BN (nine), while in Pahang, PN garnered 17 seats to BN’s 16 and PH’s eight.

By joining forces, PH and BN will have 33 seats in the Perak state assembly, which is made up of 59 seats.

The cooperation will also see the two coalitions secure 24 seats in the Pahang state assembly, achieving a simple majority.

Over in Perlis, PN will be establishing the state government after winning 14 out of the 15 seats, with one seat going to PH while BN did not secure any, despite being the ruling coalition in the state prior to GE15. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
