KUALA LUMPUR – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Anyi Ngau has won the delayed polls in Baram.
Election Commission commissioner Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, in a statement, said Anyi obtained a total of 18,399 votes with a 7,339 majority.
He said this brings the total number of parliamentary seats held by GPS to 23.
Polling completed in the flood-hit constituency with all polling stations there having concluded their operations earlier this afternoon.
Baram is one of the last parliamentary constituencies to finish voting. Another seat, Padang Serai, will see polls on December 7.
Rural constituency Baram has been struck by floods since the eve of polling.
Earlier today, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Unit reported that floods were still ongoing, but the situation had improved overall as floodwaters continue to recede.
The floodwaters in most polling districts are reported to be only ankle-deep and no longer above a metre as was the case over the past three days. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
