SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN) will remain as opposition in Selangor unless there is a new directive pertaining to its decision to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in forming the federal government.

Selangor opposition leader Datuk Rizam Ismail said he is still waiting for instruction with regard to BN’s position in the Selangor state assembly.

“As of now, there are no instructions. Perhaps, in a day or two, there will be a Selangor-level Umno meeting.

“I think there could be announcements made by the new Selangor Umno liaison chairman,” he told journalists during a break at the Selangor assembly building today.

State Assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the seating arrangement of the representatives, especially those from BN who are currently placed in the opposition section, will be decided until the formation of the unity government at the federal level is finalised.

Ng said BN assemblymen’s positions remain status quo for now. The arrangement will be changed after he receives instructions from PH leadership.

Meanwhile, Rizam confirmed that the BN reps will continue in the role of the opposition in the current session of the assembly.

“For this assembly session, I am still in the opposition bloc and we will continue to be the opposition to create check-and-balance.

“We will ensure that all the policies made by the state government will benefit the people since they have been badly affected by Covid-19 and the global economic downturn,” he said.

Asked whether he will remain in the opposition bloc until the Selangor state election, Rizam said he will abide by the direction set by Selangor BN.

“My focus is fighting for the well-being of the people. This struggle does not matter if we are in the government or the opposition” he added. – The Vibes, November 29, 2022
