IPOH – The new cabinet will be announced today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said this in a speech at Masjid Muhammad Al-Fateh in Tambun, Perak, on his first visit to his constituency after being sworn in as prime minister last week.

The announcement is slated to take place at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Putra Perdana building in Putrajaya, and the media are currently being asked to register their attendance for Anwar’s press conference.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the new cabinet members will be called to attend a special meeting on Monday.

Anwar explained that at said meeting, he will set out several codes of conduct and ethics for cabinet members.

“This Monday itself I will call for a meeting and set several rules for the cabinet.

“Rules on their conduct, on governance of their respective ministries, how to engage with public servants, how they announce public policies, and how to avoid wastage of public funds,” he said.

During his speech, Anwar repeatedly stressed that his cabinet would focus on revitalising the economy and aim to thoroughly address economic inequality.

Among the agendas, said Anwar, were also to improve the quality of education, reducing reliance on food imports, and reducing the costs of living.

Anwar also said though his administration has hundreds of high calibre candidates to fill the role of ministers, he stressed that the cabinet will be stripped down to allow for better governance and avoid wastage of public funds. – The Vibes, December 2, 2022
