KUALA LUMPUR – There are no permits for campsites in Selangor for now, said the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council.
However, owners are responsible for filing applications with the local council so their businesses are in accordance with the approved plans, said the council in a statement carried by Malaysiakini today.
As for campsites, it said such applications could be filed under permits for recreational centres.
The local council added that there is a need for policies related to camping as such activities are increasing in popularity.
This was after the operator of the campsite in Batang Kali, Selangor that was hit by a deadly landslide last Friday said he could not apply for a campsite licence because such a permit does not exist.

The issue came about when Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming disclosed that the three campsites affected by the deadly landslide in Batang Kali last Friday morning had been operating illegally for at least two years.
He said the campsites went against the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, as the operators only have approvals in 2019 from the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council for plans to have organic farms.
The minister also ordered all 155 local councils nationwide to immediately vacate all campsites by the rivers, waterfalls and hillsides for seven days.
“The government will take stringent actions against the operators. Nobody is above the law.”
The landslide disaster has, so far, claimed 26 lives. A total of 61 people survived while seven are still missing. – The Vibes, December 21, 2022
