KUALA LUMPUR – The Irrigation and Drainage Department has issued a flash flood warning for six states – Johor, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, Terengganu and Sabah.
According to its 7am statement, the Johor hotspots are Kota Tinggi, Muar and Mersing, while hotspots in Pahang are Kuantan, Maran and Pekan.
Residents in Klang, Selangor and Perak’s Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak are advised to stay vigilant.
The flash flood warning also includes Marang and Kuala Terengganu as well as Tuaran, Sabah.
Meanwhile, the total number of flood evacuees has decreased to 65,269 in five states – Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Johor and Pahang.
They are being placed in 370 temporary shelters (PPS) as a result of the ongoing floods, according to the information logged at 8am on the Info Bencana Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat website.
So far, Terengganu has 246 PPS opened to house 34,989 evacuees, of which 1,168 are babies, 207 are disabled and 1,267 are senior citizens.
Meanwhile, 30,172 flood victims are in 120 shelters in Kelantan, of which 1,071 are babies, 147 disabled and 1,348 are senior citizens.
In Pahang, only one shelter is being used to house 34 evacuees.
Similarly in Perak, one shelter is open for 26 flood victims.
