KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Ewon Benedick has officially taken over Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau’s post as Upko president after the latter stepped down.

The handover ceremony was held online at the party’s triennial delegate conference at the Penampang Cultural Centre here this evening.

Benedick, who is also entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, was not physically present at the ceremony as he attended a cabinet event at the prime minister’s official residence in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

In his speech, Benedick, who is also Penampang MP and Kadamaian assemblyman, said the event had discussed the coordination between the ministers’ key performance indexes and the unity government’s manifesto, among others.

“I thank our honorary president Datuk Seri (Wilfred) Madius (Tangau) for the consistency in his leadership and struggles in ensuring the six main matters relating to Sabah’s rights and interests are included in the manifesto or PH’s promises during the last general election.

“Now, I bear the responsibility to bring this manifesto to the cabinet meeting,” he said.

Benedick reiterated that he is currently fighting to solve the matters stated in the manifesto, including those that were raised during the Upko conference. – The Vibes, January 15, 2023
