KUALA LUMPUR – A message claiming that an RM3 fee will be imposed on gas station visitors who wish to pump their vehicles’ tyres has been dismissed as fake by petrol dealers.

Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Malaysia (PDAM) president Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz confirmed with The Vibes that the message, which has since made the rounds on social media, is spreading false information.

“(The message is) not from us (PDAM). This is fake news,” he said briefly when contacted for verification on the matter.

He added that the association is currently focused on “bigger issues” surrounding rising business costs and is planning to raise their grievances to the government in due time.

The viral message mentioned that gas station operators have held discussions with the federal government regarding charging a fee to visitors who use the air pumps provided for their vehicles’ tyres.

“This is because of certain factors following a drastic increase in electricity tariffs. Gas station owners do not want to shoulder high costs because of the electricity tariff increase.

It also claimed that the move will be made effective February 1. – The Vibes, January 18, 2023
