KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has condemned “in the strongest terms” the killing by Israeli occupation forces of at least 10 Palestinians in the West Bank city of Jenin and its refugee camp on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, also called for the international community and the United Nations Security Council to immediately respond to this latest aggression by Israel and hold the Israeli regime accountable.
“This heinous crime is the latest act of aggression in Israel’s continuous incursion in that part of the Palestinian territory, which had resulted in deaths and injuries to the Palestinians.
“It is a blatant violation of international laws, including human rights and humanitarian law,” it added.
“It is a known fact that Israel’s intransigence and aggression against the Palestinians continue to be a real obstacle to finding a comprehensive, just, lasting, and peaceful resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict.”
Malaysia also reaffirmed its long-held position that the Palestinians deserve their own independent state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Palestinian officials had accused Israeli forces of using tear gas inside a hospital’s children’s ward.
Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila charged that “occupation forces stormed Jenin government hospital and intentionally fired tear gas canisters at the paediatric department in the hospital”.
The mounting toll follows the deadliest year in the Palestinian territory since the UN began keeping records in 2005. – The Vibes, January 28, 2023
