No summons for failing to produce digital road tax: Loke
It is not mandatory to download the MyJPJ app, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke – Transport Ministry’s Facebook page, February 11, 2023

KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has provided a set of frequently asked questions (FAQ) following high interest in the Road Transport Department’s (RTD) move to do away with road tax stickers and go digital.

“I know many people have all sorts of questions. I will shed some light on frequently asked questions,” he said of the FAQ on Twitter.

The move to go digital – with the physical display of road tax stickers to no longer be enforced – will be implemented in stages, first involving private vehicles and motorcycles owned by Malaysians.

Malaysians are encouraged to download the MyJPJ mobile app or go to the department’s public portal for digital displays of their respective motor vehicle and driving licences.

However, this led to Malaysians calling on the ministry to rectify and possibly upgrade the RTD’s official portal that has frequently gone down yesterday.

The following are the FAQs:

1) Is it mandatory to download the MyJPJ app?

No. It's just one of the options to get digital copies of road tax stickers and drivers’ licences.

2) If I cannot download the MyJPJ app now and cannot obtain a digital road tax, will I receive a summons?

No. Enforcement officials can still verify your road tax status and licence in the system using their enforcement devices.

3) Do I still have to pay for my road tax and driver’s licence after they expire?

Yes, they still need to be paid for. Only the physical sticker is no longer needed.

4) What about senior citizens without smartphones and areas that don’t have Internet?

Don't worry, the digital format for road tax is not mandatory. You can still get the physical road tax sticker and physical license from RTD if needed.

5) If the car is not driven by the owner, how is the driver to show the digital road tax as proof?

The digital road tax can be printed on paper and kept in the car. However, even if you can’t show proof, it is not an offence. Enforcement officers will check the details in the system through their gadgets.

6) Why can’t I login to MyJPJ?

As with any new system, many people will want to sign up at the same time, causing traffic to the system to be high.

“I know there are many more questions and we’ll try to give clear explanations. In any process of change, a period of adjustment is needed,” Loke said. – The Vibes, February 11, 2023
