KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub is calling on Umno to submit a confidence motion backing the Johor menteri besar.

In a statement today, he said tomorrow is the last day of the Johor state assembly, where it will vote to approve the state’s 2021 budget.

He said the issue of legitimate leadership has captured the public’s eye following recent developments in the country’s political landscape, especially in Parliament and most recently in the Perak legislative assembly.

“It is important for the people to see that the government of the day, whether at the federal or state level, has legitimacy.

“I feel it would be good if Umno submits a motion of confidence in the leadership of the menteri besar of Johor to prove that the state government can survive and has the dignity to continue to govern Johor.”

Salahuddin, who is also Simpang Jera assemblyman, said the motion of confidence will prove the state government's legitimacy and show that Bersatu representatives still firmly support it.

He said it is likely that something important will happen tomorrow during the last day of the state's budget winding-up session, and all eyes will be on the Perikatan Nasional government in Johor. – The Vibes, December 5, 2020
