JOHOR BARU — A group of six NGOs is urging enforcement authorities to reinitiate investigations over an intimate video which features a man bearing a resemblance to former international trade and industry minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
A representative from the group of NGOs, Mohd Zarir Md Nor, said they are motivated to uncover the truth and individual behind the video.
He said they also aim to make sure the perpetrators involved are detained and brought to justice.
“I’m not trying to blame anyone, but this is to ensure the ones involved are brought to justice.
“If investigation papers are reopened, it can determine if Azmin is involved in the video or not,” Zarir said.
He explained that a police report on the matter was filed because Azmin – who is also a Bersatu supreme council member – could have his reputation tarnished.
“This is why it is crucial for police to take action as soon as possible to uncover the truth.
“I hope police will resolve this matter swiftly and return the people’s confidence towards the nation’s justice system,” he added.
Zarir was present with several NGOs while filing the police report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Wednesday.
The six NGOs include Pertubuhan Khidmat Rakyat, Pertubuhan Amal Kebajikan Ukhwah Anak Malaysia, Pertubuhan Gagasan Keadilan, and Gabungan Anak Sarawak Melaka.
On June 12, 2019, former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Aziz admitted to being involved in a sex video that went viral, accusing Azmin of being the other individual in the footage.
However, the former Gombak MP denied the allegations, describing it as a sinister plot to tarnish his political career.
In 2020, former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said investigations into the video could not proceed due to technical factors.
Meanwhile, in January of that same year, the Attorney-General’s Chambers decided that it was not going to pursue prosecutions given the failure to determine the identity of the individuals in the video.
Additionally, another NGO representative, Md Yusoff Ahmad, filed a police report against former home minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin following his statement that he possesses files against several political leaders.
He said that it is an offence for Hamzah to keep files after leaving office.
“Hamzah’s hiding of those files is an act that lacks integrity.
