PUTRAJAYA – Prof Choong Yeow Choy, the former dean of the Universiti Malaya Faculty of Law, today took the oath of office and allegiance as judicial commissioner.

According to a media statement from the Federal Court’s Chief Registrar, Choong, 59, received the letter of appointment and took the oath of office and allegiance as judicial commissioner at a ceremony held at the Palace of Justice today.

Choong, who was born in Penang, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Universiti Malaya, as well as a Master of Laws from Harvard University and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne.

He has held positions as an instructor, lecturer, associate professor and professor in the law faculty at Universiti Malaya before being appointed as dean of the faculty in 2009.

Choong has also held positions as a visiting professor at several universities, including the National University of Singapore.

He was appointed as a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission on February 10, 2017, until September 3, 2018.

He was a fellow of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution before being appointed as a judicial commissioner. – Bernama, March 17, 2023
