KUALA LUMPUR – PAS and Umno are vehemently against an event next week that features muscular male performers from Thailand clad in lingerie, with PAS calling it “insensitive, immoral, and disgusting”.
Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan today alleged that the performers, known as “Thai Hot Guys”, who will be brought in for the opening of Privacy Club Tun Razak, promote “hedonistic culture and promiscuity”.
“PAS urges authorities, especially Kuala Lumpur City Hall, to reconsider its approval of the hosting of this event, which clearly goes against local culture and is not sensitive towards Islam’s position as the country’s official religion.
“Individual or economic freedom cannot be used as an excuse to allow negative tendencies,” he said in a statement.
Claiming that the club has “insulted” former prime minister Tun Abdul Razak by including his name in its business label, the Kota Baru MP added that the event scheduled to take place on March 30 coincides with the holy month of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Muhammad Akmal Saleh said yesterday that the wing’s representatives are planning to lodge a police report today on the event.
“If organisers refuse to cancel the show, we (Umno Youth) will go to the event ourselves and cancel it. We don’t need people who don’t know how to respect our sensitivities,” the Merlimau assemblyman said in a Facebook post where he also shared images promoting the event.
In a separate statement, PAS’ Dewan Ulamak chief Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya asserted that the event goes against laws enshrined under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 due to the male performers in lingerie.
He also claimed that the homosexual community’s “attraction” to the Thai Hot Guys will contribute to an increase in HIV cases.
Thai Hot Guys went viral in 2018 when the group of men served customers at their restaurant in Thailand dressed in feminine and revealing clothing.
According to a Facebook post by Malaysia Pub, Privacy Club Tun Razak is in Jalan Tun Razak, with its opening event to also include DJs Perry Kuan and Alexis Grace. – The Vibes, March 22, 2023
