KUALA LUMPUR – Discussions between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) on the upcoming elections in six states are still ongoing, said Selangor DAP chief Gobind Singh Deo.

He said the coalitions’ mutual commitment to the state polls expected later this year proves the stability of the federal unity government.

Speaking at the party’s annual convention for its Selangor chapter today, Gobind, who is also Damansara MP, said several discussions between BN and PH have been held on seats to be contested by the coalition.

“We hope this process can be completed soon. DAP Selangor is committed to ensuring that the cooperation between BN and PH in Selangor goes smoothly so that we can deny our opponents the chance to take over Selangor,” he said.

Gobind added that in the last state election, PH won 16 seats in the Selangor assembly and remained confident that it could maintain these seats.

After chairing the second unity government secretariat meeting last Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that seat negotiations within his administration are proceeding well.

Anwar, who is also PH chairman, said the matter was being discussed within the joint committee consisting of leaders from all government parties.

The unity government consists of 20 parties with the majority bloc comprising coalitions PH, BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Last month, the menteri besar and chief ministers of six states – Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu – agreed to consider dissolving their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. – The Vibes, March 26, 2023
