IPOH – Police are tracking down a Vietnamese man to assist in the probe into a murder case involving his compatriot in Taman Sri Kurau, Bercham Gama, near here last month.

Ipoh district police chief Yahaya Hassan said the suspect has been identified as Tam, aged between 30 and 40.

“The incident happened at 10.47pm on April 18. The 40-year-old victim, the suspect, and five fellow citizens went to a karaoke centre for leisure.

“However, an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect inside the premises and escalated to the parking lot before the victim was stabbed using a glass bottle. The cause of the fight was said to be the victim’s indecent behaviour towards the suspect’s girlfriend,” he said in a statement.

According to Yahaya, the severely injured victim was taken by his friends to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment, while the suspect had run away.

“The victim was pronounced dead at around 1am due to stab wounds to the neck and body. The results of the post-mortem conducted on April 19 found that the victim died due to an incision wound to the neck using a sharp weapon,” he said.

Yahaya said the five friends of the victim, including two women, were remanded to assist in the investigation but were released as they were not involved in the murder.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Anyone with information regarding the case can contact investigating officer S. Dasarathan at 012-564-4484,” he said. – Bernama, May 3, 2023
