PETALING JAYA – Yesterday, social media was abuzz with a short video of a child locked inside a vehicle with no adult supervision.

According to the person who shared the video, he noticed the boy inside a Perodua Viva with the engine and air-conditioner turned off.

He informed me that the front window was left slightly ajar.

“What madness is this…leaving a child in the car in this hot weather,” he remarked.

The X (Twitter) user, @arifjat, claimed he waited for 40 minutes for the boy’s parents.

However, when no one returned to the car and the boy appeared to be pale and sweating, he sought help from others in the area to get the boy out of the car.

They broke a window and took the boy to a nearby clinic.

As the post went viral, many asked him about the boy’s condition and what the parents’ reactions were when they returned to their vehicle.

He informed those who asked that he did not wait around because he had work commitments.

“Since many asked me what the parents’ reactions were like, after we rescued the boy, I left the scene to go back to work.

“The boy was under the clinic’s care until his parents returned. I did not meet his parents,” he said.

The videos he shared, which clearly showed the boy’s face, and his tweets about the incident have since been deleted.

In a new tweet, @arifjat said he took the videos down to respect the boy’s family’s request.

He said he did not post the videos to humiliate anyone but to spread awareness.

“I hope all of you will stop making negative remarks about them (the boy’s parents),” he posted.

Meanwhile, he shared an update on the boy’s condition, as relayed to him by one of the boy’s family members.

The child was sent to a hospital for a full check-up and is healthy.

The family member said leaving the boy alone in the car was not intentional. – The Vibes, August 26, 2023
