KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s first and only night bicycle race, the RHB Lekas Highway Ride returns tonight after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event marks the seventh edition of the race and will see a record number of 5,618 participants hit the road at 7.45pm in four categories – 120km, 78km, 17km, and 12km.

The event’s last edition in 2019 saw more than 4,500 participants join in on the fun.

The ride will start and end at the Kajang Selatan Toll Plaza on the Kajang-Seremban Highway, otherwise known as Lekas.

The highway will also be temporarily closed to all traffic from 5pm until 4am tomorrow morning.

A total of 19 intersections on the Lekas Highway will be closed along the route from Kajang to Paroi, with riders at the starting point making their way down to the Ampangan toll plaza, and then heading back to the starting point.

Organisers are advising motorists who plan to use the Lekas Highway to use alternative routes such as the North-South Expressway (Plus) and Federal Highway.

The winner of the 120km category is set to bring home RM1,000, the 78km category winner will get RM600, while young adults aged 17 to 21 will get RM500 if they win.

For the 17km and 12km categories – both for boys and girls aged between 10 and 16 – the winners of each will receive a plaque and vouchers.

Lekas has apologised to road users for any inconvenience caused during the race period. – The Vibes, October 15, 2022
