SARAWAK’s proposed standard assessment for Primary 6 is expected to start in 2025 and will focus on dual language programme (DLP) subjects.
State Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the DLP subjects are Science, Mathematics, and English.
According to reports in the Borneo Post, Roland said it was still premature to reveal more details about the assessment for now.
“This is because deliberations are ongoing. We also expect the assessment to be expanded to include Form 3 students in future,” he said in his winding-up speech for his ministry in the assembly today.
He said the assessment was vital to gauge the effectiveness of the DLP, along with other initiatives by the state to increase the uptake of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in schools.
“The reaction from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and other federal counterparts to Sarawak’s proposed standard assessment for Primary 6 and Form 3 has been positive,” he said.
He added that 606 teachers have been trained under the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English programme this year, in addition to the 5,200 teachers who were trained previously.
The Form 3 Assessment (PT3) was abolished in June 2022, while the Primary 6 Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) was scrapped in 2021. – The Vibes, November 28, 2023
