PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he met Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today for his weekly pre-cabinet meeting audience and also updated him on current developments.

"During the meeting, the King told me to carry on with my duties as the prime minister and for the Madani government to continue administering the country.

"His Majesty also decreed that the palace would not get involved in any political manoeuvrings," he said in a statement on his Facebook account.

Anwar said that he also told His Majesty that if there was any proposal from any party to donate RM500 million or RM750 million, it should be done directly to the poor in the country.

The prime minister's statement comes following reports of the 'Dubai Move' and speculations of RM1 billion being allegedly set aside to bribe MPs to shift support.

On December 29, Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop had said that the Dubai Move cropped up when certain Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders were holidaying in the UAE recently.

He claimed that a meeting took place in the country’s main city of Dubai to discuss specific duties for 'officers' responsible for identifying MPs who can be influenced to shift support to the opposition.

The intention was purportedly to set up a government through backdoor means, he added.

A few days later, Anwar said he had heard of the Dubai Move, but the movement to topple the Unity Government had no impact on his administration.

He said the focus of the government under his leadership was now on developing the nation and looking after the well-being of the people.

"I have read about the Dubai Move but for me, we are concentrating on our work. Their deception for me has no effect," he said.

On January 7, PN elections director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that the opposition coalition has enough statutory declarations (SDs) from MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to topple the Unity Government.

The Kedah mentri besar and PAS leader however did not provide any specific details such as names of the lawmakers and the exact number of SDs signed in support of PN.

"They are all enough. Just wait for the day," he was quoted as telling reporters at an event in Kuala Nerang, Kedah. – The Vibes, January 9, 2024
