A BABYSITTER was charged in the Kuantan magistrate's court today with murder following the tragic death of a three-year-old girl in Bukit Rangin on February 17.

When the charge was presented to Nur Nabilah Sekh Ruslan, 32, no plea was entered before Magistrate Ellyna Othman.

Nur Nabilah appeared calm in the dock, nodding in acknowledgment and stating "faham" (understood) after the charge was read.

According to reports, she is accused of causing the child's death at a residence in the Bukit Rangin housing area between 6 pm and 8 pm on February 17.

If convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code, Nur Nabilah could face the death penalty or a prison sentence ranging from 30 to 40 years, in addition to a minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aisyah Abdul Wahab handled the prosecution, while Nur Nabilah was not represented.

Siti Aisyah noted that the murder charge is non-bailable and requested the court to schedule a date for the submission of the DNA test report.

Magistrate Ellyna set May 15 for the next mention of the case.

The accused, dressed in a floral brown headscarf, a patterned blue long-sleeve shirt, and black trousers, was seen visibly distressed as she was led by police officers out of the courtroom to a waiting police vehicle.

It was reported last month that six individuals were arrested on suspicion of abusing the three-year-old girl, who passed away while receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital on February 20. – March 12, 2025
