SABAH Umno has slammed the state government for letting the cooperative-run KOSAN factory shut down without lifting a finger to save it, leaving 230 of its workers jobless and without compensation.
“Where’s the safety net? The government ended the contract with no mitigation plan and no help for those affected,” said Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir.
He said the factory, which operated for over four decades, was a key contributor to the local economy — and deserved support, not abandonment.
It came to light that many former workers now face an uncertain future, laid off with nothing to fall back on after Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau raised the matter on social media.
Suhaimi demanded transparency, questioning whether the move was a budget cut or a decision to favour another party.
“If big companies can get government support, why not one that has served Sabahans for years?” he said.
He urged the state to intervene immediately — with financial aid, job opportunities or anything to keep the plant running and workers afloat. - March 25, 2025
