UMNO Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has been announced as the candidate to represent Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Gerik Parliamentary seat in the 16th General Election (GE16).

This was announced by BN chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, with Temenggor State Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, to be renominated to defend the same seat.

In this regard, he urged the residents of Gerik to accept Asyraf Wajdi as a candidate, describing him as having great potential to bring change to the Gerik area.

"Although there are several local figures who are worthy of being highlighted, if Asyraf Wajdi wins the Parliamentary seat and is appointed as a minister, he will ensure that job opportunities in the ministry are given to the residents of Gerik.

He said this when attending the Gerik division Umno leadership settlement program at the Janda Baik Ilmu Centre in Pahang as reported by Berita Harian.

Commenting on Salbiah, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno President, said the Temenggor assemblyman would continue to serve in his current area.

"The candidate for another state assembly seat is still being selected," he said.

Meanwhile, Asyraf Wajdi, when asked to comment on his candidacy, said he would accept any decision made by the party's top leadership.

"I am a party man and will only obey the party leadership's instructions to contest wherever I am told to.

"Ultimately, my intention is only to help the people in any area that the party entrusts me with," he said. - October 13, 2025
