THE joy of a group of children playing in a mining pool ended in tragedy when one of them was found drowned, this afternoon.

Siti Nur Khadijah Ahmad Faisal, 12, who attended Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Penchu, drowned in a mine near Kampung Penchu, Kundang, Tangkak at 3.20 pm.

Tangkak District Police Chief, Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said the rescue team found the victim's body about 50 metres from the scene of the incident.

"Initial investigations found that the victim, along with her younger brother and other friends, were bathing in the area, which was three metres deep.

"A search and rescue operation was launched involving the police, fire brigade and assistance from local residents," he said.

The body was then taken to the Tangkak Hospital for a post-mortem. – October 25, 2025
