FORMER Sabah DAP Chairman and former Tanjong Papat State Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon has officially joined Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM)  along with his secretary, Liau Fui Fui.

The two are expected to contest in the 17th State Election (PRN), with Frankie set to contest in the Tanjong Papat seat while Fui Fui in the Elopura seat.

Confirming the matter, KDM Deputy President cum Director of Election Machinery Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said the party is confident that both candidates are credible individuals who are diligent in serving the people.

“That is why we chose Frankie and Fui Fui to represent KDM in these two seats,” he said.

Wetrom added that the decision to field candidates from outside the party reflects KDM's inclusive approach.

"KDM is not a party for one community but a party that represents all Malaysians, as enshrined in our constitution which emphasises democratic well-being for all," he said recently.

Also present were KDM Acting President Priscella Peter, Secretary-General Willie Jude Junaidi and more than 2,000 members from 105 branches in the East Coast.

Wetrom said KDM planned to contest in 38 state seats including two in Sandakan.

"We will identify two more potential areas in the East Coast before the official announcement on November 13 in Kota Kinabalu," he said.

Meanwhile, Fui Fui said her participation in KDM is in line with the party's mission to serve the community at the grassroots level.

"With eight years of experience in politics, I will continue to work hard to help the people. Together with Frankie, we will bring the KDM mission to Sandakan," she said, expressing confidence that the party's presence in the area will be strengthened through active involvement at the grassroots level.

Earlier, Priscella stressed KDM's commitment to championing the voices and aspirations of the youth, while confident that Frankie and Fui Fui will be able to show excellent performance in the upcoming elections. - November 11, 2025
