UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that the party has never had a direct relationship with DAP.

On the contrary, the relationship in the current Unity Government is only between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“We have never had a direct relationship with DAP. Our relationship is between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

“Since MCA is a component party in Barisan Nasional and DAP is a component party in Pakatan Harapan, the main basis must be laid that this cooperation is not from party to party, but from coalition to coalition,” he said.

He said this when commenting on MCA’s insistence that BN component parties not continue to cooperate with DAP in the 16th General Election (GE16).
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the BN Chairman, said that the main thing at the moment is political rationality ahead of the next GE.

“This matter can be resolved and an understanding can be reached. I think what is more important is political rationality when the time comes for the General Election to be announced.

“Leave it to the main leadership of both coalitions to address and overcome the existing problems,” he said.
