KOTA KINABALU – A total of 129 compounds were issued to conditional movement control order (CMCO) violators in Sabah last night as police got tough on New Year’s Eve revellers.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said most of those fined broke health SOPs such as not adhering to social distancing.
“Last night on New Year’s Eve, 129 individuals were compounded, while we also had to close an entertainment event held at a popular mall here last night for breaking the SOPs,” he told The Vibes tonight.
Hazani said the police issued a total of 308 traffic summonses, confiscated 13 motorcycles with fake plate numbers, and six individuals were detained for driving under the influence.
A total of 260 teams from the General Operations Force with multipurpose vehicle patrol car units were deployed to maintain order last night.
In Labuan, a 26-year-old man was fined for breaking quarantine orders after he was spotted at the hotel compound where he was supposed to be undergoing self-isolation in a room.
Labuan police also issued 26 fines for various offences after checks were made in 121 locations involving 257 personnel. – The Vibes, January 1, 2021.
