THE proposal to increase Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats from 82 to 99 is still awaiting parliamentary approval, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He strongly dismissed claims that the seats had been distributed to parties in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

“Despite speculation and initial discussions on the distribution of seats, the actual process is still at the Election Commission (EC) level, and there has been no official decision on it.

“Suddenly, some parties are saying that out of the 17 seats, 10 have been guaranteed for PBB, three for SUPP, and so on.

“I don’t think PBB and SUPP have such an interest. No seats have been determined yet.

“I don’t even know where the seats are, and they haven’t received full approval from Parliament and EC,” he told a press conference in Kuching.

He added that the speculation that has gone viral on social media does not reflect the official results.

According to him, all parties need to wait for the proposal to be approved by Parliament first before the seat determination can be made legally.

Abdul Karim said that the addition of these seats is part of an effort to ensure more balanced representation of the people in line with population growth and state development. – March 12, 2026
