Key witnesses in alleged plot to overthrow the government out of the country – say police
SEVERAL important witnesses believed to be able to assist the investigation into the alleged plot to overthrow the government were found to have left the country since January.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director, Datuk M Kumar, said that so far, a total of 14 witnesses have had their statements recorded under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to him, through a review, the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) confirmed that there were important witnesses who had left Malaysia via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between January and February.
"The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is continuing its efforts to locate the witnesses to assist in the investigation.
"The police are investigating a case under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which is by any means directly or indirectly engaging in activities that are detrimental to parliamentary democracy, as stated by the Inspector-General of Police on February 27," he said in a statement.
He said PDRM is committed to conducting a transparent and comprehensive investigation in accordance with existing legal provisions.
On February 27, the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, reportedly said that police received a report regarding the alleged conspiracy, which involved an influential local individual with an international media agency.
He said the investigation was being conducted by the Bukit Aman under Section 124B of the Penal Code.
It was earlier reported that Nizamuddin Hamid, who is the lawyer for the late Tun Daim Zainuddin's wife, Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, had recorded his statement at Bukit Aman to assist investigations into the allegations involved.
Meanwhile, Na'imah, in a statement, described the allegations that she was trying to overthrow the government as absurd, while insisting that she had never been involved in, considered or supported any such effort. – March 13, 2026
